USF Festival of Voices
The University of South Florida (USF) Festival of Voices is an outreach program for high school choral students presented in collaboration with The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay. High school music directors can get a head start on their school year by sending their choirs to this 2-day workshop conducted by Dr. James K. Bass culminating in a Finale Concert. Students sing side-by-side with members of USF choral ensembles and The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay. Festival of Voices consistently draws over 350 high school choral students from over 30 schools representing 8 counties in Florida.
Many thanks to Nhick Pacis for providing the video below from our 2011 Festival of Voices.
Students interested in pursuing music as a career path are able to gain insights from many of the professional musicians singing with The Master Chorale as well as interact with college level singers. Other students not wishing to become professional musicians are able to see how to keep music in their lives post-high school. A majority of Master Chorale members are able to balance singing and a professional life unrelated to music and some of the participating college students are not music majors.
Funding for the 2014 Festival of Voices is provided in part by donors of The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay. If you or someone you know would like to sponsor this educational event, please contact Kara Dwyer, Master Chorale Director of Operations, at 813.974.7726.
