Thank you, Corinne, for sharing your compelling, positive message about choral music in our lives!"I'm reveling in the afterglow, post-first rehearsal in years, of singing in a massive choir of highly-trained voices and experiencing things I forgot existed, things that my body and brain know and remember as if it was yesterday: the excitement of hearing overtones in a simple (but not easy) warm-up; the level of musicianship Beethoven and Stravinsky demands; the lightheadedness from carrying a high G at double forte for measures and measures and measures; a oneness of unamplified sound that comes from the vibration of not just my own voice, but a hundred. It's the feeling of being a part of something much greater than I could ever claim to be on my own. After being in the spotlight for most of the last ten years, I am humbled by the notion that I can gather more strength when I am surrounded by others who feel, desire, give, and receive without approval until the very end of the process. The end of the process is what the audience experiences, but everything else that got us there is ours and ours alone. There is no pay-off, there's only a series of precious moments that you wish could NEVER end. I knew I needed this, but I didn't realize how much...this was a GREAT first rehearsal!
