The Lost Birds, by Christopher Tin, is a musical memorial to bird species driven to extinction by humankind. Sweeping and elegiac, it's a haunting tribute to those soaring flocks that once filled our skies, but whose songs have since been silenced. It's a celebration of their feathered beauty: their symbolism as messengers of hope, peace, and renewal. But it's also a warning about our own tenuous existence on the planet: that the fate that befell these once soaring flocks foreshadows our own extinction.

CONCERTS WITH THE FLORIDA ORCHESTRA

Holst: The Planets

September 30th & October 1st, 2023

It’s been an inspiration since it premiered in 1918 – including to composer John Williams for the Imperial March for Star Wars. Also on the program is the Percussion Collective, a stunning collection of young artists who are reinventing the concert experience. They join forces with TFO for Christopher Theofanidis’ Drum Circles. Michael Francis conducts.

With its divine “Hallelujah” chorus, Messiah is the ultimate celebration of holiday joy. A tradition for nearly 300 years. Michael Francis conducts, featuring The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay.

FAURé: REQUIEM

April 26th, 27th, and 28th, 2024

“I gave everything to it I was able to give,” Saint-Saëns said of his Third Symphony. TFO Resident Conductor Chelsea Gallo takes us to France for a program featuring Saint-Saëns’ lush masterpiece, which builds until the splendor of the organ, which is let loose in the breathtaking conclusion. A tribute to Fauré’s father, his Requiem creates a place of peace and serenity with rich, soulful melodies, featuring The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay. The vibrant energy of Lili Boulanger’s Of a Spring Morning begins the concert.

Mahler: Symphony No. 2
